My Name is Jenny Allain 

I am the school nurse at Johnny Appleseed Elementary School in Leominster Massachusetts. I went to Worcester State College and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I have also received a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Nursing Education from Regis University in 2005. I have been very fortunate to be the school nurse here at JA since 2001. I am always available to answer any questions or help out with any concerns that you might have.

When to keep your child home
Below are the recommendations for health related absences:
• Fever greater than 100.4: Please keep children home until the temperature is less than 99 for 24 hours without the use of medication.
• Excessive Coughing: Your child’s cough should be dry and easily controlled with a drink of water or cough drop.
• Vomiting or Diarrhea: Children should be able to eat or drink without having any vomiting or diarrhea for at least 12 hours before returning to school.
• Red or Draining Eyes: Please keep your child home and check with your child’s physician to make sure it is not conjunctivitis.
• Excessive Nasal Drainage: Please keep your child home and check your child’s physician to make sure there is no infection.
• Unusual Rash: Please check with your child’s physician to make sure the rash is not infectious.
• Active/Live Lice: Please make sure that your child is treat IF they are diagnosed with lice. There are many treatment options. Please check with your child’s physician or the school nurse.

Here we go again. Lots of illness is starting to flow through the nurses office. PLEASE make sure to talk to your child about good hand washing and covering coughs.
